SIX WOODS PROJECT
Oz and Wales
“The need for help to save Australian native forests and expand native species forestry, is very great. This is a fantastic opportunity for those with the relevant knowledge and passion, to help turn the tide in Australia, by helping build a multi faceted eco forestry industry, and help develop eco-woodworking artisanry. ”
SAVE AUSTRALIAN NATIVE FORESTS AND FORESTRY
The need for help to save Australian forests and expand native species forestry, is very great. Six Woods is a fantastic opportunity for those with the relevant knowledge to help turn the tide in Australia, by helping build a multi faceted eco forestry industry.
ABOUT SIX WOODS
Six Woods is a 400 acre forest of six native WA species forest plantations , beyond Perth, Western Australia. The trees were planted 25 years ago by a forester and his wife. The site management has led to eco revegetation resulting in identification of rare plant species. The property needs new custodianship.
The land is owned by an older lady whose forester husband died - she will have to sell out if support is not raised soon. She is very much hoping young people can step up and save her beloved project. There just isn’t the local expertise apart from a native woods logger, but … there are young carpenters and others keen to give it a go if we can bring in the relevant expertise and leadership. Will be open to students from around the world.
The embryonic plan is to turn the site into a Forestry and Wood Artisanry Centre, where people can train in the basics of eco-forestry, eco-woodworking, eco build, and eco water and land management, then specialise in any one area as wanted.
This includes building an eco-forest-artisans education centre with gallery and museum. And bunkhouse.
Expectation is to collect expertise, design the project superbly, and implement professionally.
“To be blunt, this is essentially a project where two old ladies, are hanging in there to facilitate younger generations to take up the baton. Between us our many years of expertise, in eco-forestry and eco-scientific project management, is extensive. We want to pass on our skills and hand over the project to the next generation.”
SIX WOODS VISION
To be a dynamic contribution to saving world forests, planting new ones, and expanding related eco-vocations, including wood artisanry (including bespoke hand made furniture production, building materials etc.) No, the woods themselves are not extensive enough to support such industries as viable industries - but will be training site. This way expanding the number of those in eco-vocations expands the possibilities for saving viable forests and planting new ones (around the world). Community and school education and respite activities will be ancillary activities.
It is intended the site become a model for more of the same around the world.
